A little late, but here's my Hallowe'en cupcakes

Flu is done. 14 hour workdays, not so much. But after a week of dinners consisting of fuzzy mints found in the bowels of my purse and Halloween candy, I'm ready to start cooking again! I've got a busy week planned with the ballet, S's birthday dinner and a girls night, but there will be a few recipes popping up finally! And I'll finally have time to start commenting on everyone's blogs - man I miss reading what you guys are cooking!

So, in honor of Halloween I made devil's food cupcakes. I went with a mix, but doctored it up by adding more cocoa powder and subbing out most of the oil for buttermilk. Very tasty! I used my mom's infamous icing recipe and turned those little devils into mummies! (note the irony.....mommy's icing recipe for the mummy cupcakes).

They turned out pretty good for a quick decorating job.

And finally, here's is the winning pumpkin in our annual office pumpkin carving contest. Sue did a fabulous job with this...how could it not win??!!

  4. Love the "mummies". That icing recipe is great for all kinds of decorating. I'm glad that you like using it. The pumpkin is awesome as well!
We only had 2 trick or treaters this year. I miss seeing all the little ghosts and goblins.
Really glad to hear your feeling much better.

  5. Sorry to hear that you were sick & am happy that you're doing better. The cupcakes are great - is the icing a fondant or did you pipe it on?

  6. Mom - the girls at work love this icing because it's not too sweet. I was at work, not sure if we had kids or not this year.

Taste - it's a homemade icing made with regular sugar, butter and warm milk. I used white food colouring to take out the yellow tinge and then piped it on.
