First off, let me say thanks to
Dave over at My Year on the Grill for the wonderful award (apparently I give good blog....and uh...other things that aren't food blog appropriate) and the blurb he wrote about my blog. This man is beyond talented when it comes to his grill. I'm talking desserts, side dishes.....this man has it going on! I really wish I lived a bit closer to him and his wife.....I think I may invite myself to dinner every night given the chance! And hopefully he's having a blast in New Orleans this weekend...very jealous that he ate dinner at NOLA.
I'd like to pass the award on to two of my new favourites:
Nat over at Girls are made of.....check out the seriously beautiful cheesecake she just made!
And
Pierce over at Life in Squirrelhead Manor. She's a hoot...loves
Nigella, has become a fun email friend and....just bought herself the sister bike to mine. Can you say road trip? Wonder where the mid-way point is between Calgary and Florida??
Ok, so now that I professed to not eat leftovers....I will confess that is a tiny bit of a lie. My mother pointed out that I love her leftover meatloaf sandwiches. So yes.....I do. And I will eat leftover turkey. Actually, this time I had to. After spending $69 on a huge turkey, even I felt a twinge of guilt at the thought of throwing out all that meat. I sent over a huge bag to the goddaughter who is a
turkey'aholic.....that kid could eat turkey sandwiches every day and be happy I bet!
As for me......

Nothing beats a hot turkey sandwich with stuffing and gravy. Doesn't it look like the perfect cold weather food?? And.....

Pizza....yep, turkey pizza. Why not? I adapted my favourite chicken, bacon and ranch pizza to be turkey, prosciutto and
alfredo sauce. This used up the last of the turkey and for a quick throw together pizza...not bad! Now, I am off to enjoy my coffee (with bailey's) and then to get groceries. I'm back in the swing of things with planning meals......what could be better than baking some cookies today and throwing something delicious in the
crockpot??
It's not a lie; just a forgotten piece of leftover heaven! I like your pizza idea. Hot turkey sandwiches have always been a favorite of mine. I prefer eating the turkey the next day than the day of all the preparations! It might have to do with being in the kitchen all day cooking and then the next day is a day of relaxation!
ReplyDeleteThank you for all the good recipes over the last couple of years. I will bestow the daughter of the year award to you today!
Thanks for the shoutout, and you know you deserve the award... Always among my favorites...
ReplyDeleteFeel free to come back and lift the jpg image of the award if you want to permanently post it on your site... And anytime you are forced to visit Kansas, you are more than invited. I would be insulted if you didn;t visit!
That is one excellent sandwich! And the pizza looks great, too. Ah, I wish I'd made the turkey this year for our family meal! Oh well....
ReplyDeleteHello Cathy, Congratulations on your award Cathy ! Its absolutely true what Dave says...your blog is EXCELLENT ! and its not just the wonderful cooking but the writing too...your stories are so light hearted and fun to read....
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Cathy ! This is my FIRST award ...I can't wait to write about it : ) ...
PS : I sort of lied too...I think left overs when it comes to stuff like meat loaf, roasts etc are pretty good when left in the fridge a day or two. The flavor improves for some reason... but definitely NOT stuff like pasta, vege dishes etc... :p
AND BTW, that "shit on a shingle" recipe is always served the third day after Christmas! A staple of leftovers that must be honored
ReplyDeleteYou and me both would invite ourselves over to Dave's for dinner!
ReplyDeleteThe sandwich looks fabulous and the pizza too. Quite yummy on a cold day.
Hmmm. The half-way point from Calagary to Florida, ( appears me and Pierce live in the same city in Florida :-) )
Mom - thanks :) And yes, I can't eat much either after spending the day cooking.
ReplyDeleteDave - Kansas....I'm sure I could find a reason to visit there!! Maybe with the bike :)
Wandering - when I was single I lived on sandwiches....there is something about the ease of them that I love!
Nat - thanks for the compliments :) I'm not overly creative so this was my way to attempt to become more so this year. Hmm..lasagna after a day or two always tastes better to me.....
Velva - well then screw halfway...I'll just come all the way to Tallahassee :)
Hi Cathy, Your blog is fabulous and that sandwich sure looks dee-lish! Dave is so right! Congrats on your award!
ReplyDeleteThanks Marguerite! Love yours too!
ReplyDeleteWow to just so many things! Thank you for passing on the award, turning me on to a new bloggers and this awesome pizza and turkey creation.
ReplyDeleteVelva and I are both in the Tallahassee area. I wouldn't be opposed to a half way trip but it sure is warmer (usually) here than where you are!
Mmm, I didn't get a hot turkey sammie this year - I will have to make sure to have one after Christmas - they are my fave!
ReplyDeletePierce - in that case I guess I'll ride all the way to Florida ;)
ReplyDeleteNatashya - I didn't get a single hot turkey sandwich last year...this year I had 3 :)
Congrats on the award!!
ReplyDeleteSandwich with gravy? I'm IN!!!!
