I don't eat my leftovers. Barring leftover turkey, there is not a single leftover that I eat.
Nope........I do all this cooking and baking and if S or someone else does not partake of what is left in the fridge, then it's done for. Luckily S has a pretty gigantic appetite and most leftovers are packed off in his lunch. If he doesn't eat it, I'm not to sure what happens...it magically leaves the fridge and I don't worry about it. Growing up in a household where we were admonished to eat every last bite on our plate as there were starving children in the world, this could be akin to blasphemy for my mom that I don't use all that food up :)
On that note, I did manage to use up the leftover "uncooked" Brussels sprouts in a deliciously healthy pasta dish. I wouldn't say that it was a wow, but it was healthy (after a week of indulgence, AKA cheesecake, healthy was good).
Hi Cathy, oh my.....I am JUST like that. What's more my hubs too always obliges to finish of the left overs...packed off in his lunch to work :) ...how uncanny ! I have never seen Brussels Sprouts with Pasta before, but I am positive it must taste healthy and light. What's more no Bacon to mask that mild bitterness of the sprouts, but Shiitake mushrooms are my favorite and have an intense flavor that would work just the same. Thanks for sharing... this is a great recipe...
ReplyDeleteMorning Nat! Don't get me wrong..I would put bacon in absolutely everything and this pasta would've been great with it! But after that week of indulgence with thanksgiving food, it was time for a break. Although, I recently came across a blog for bacon jam....that is high on the to do list!
ReplyDeleteMaybe it's because you had to eat every last morsel growing up that you now despise leftovers. Kind of like your way of rebelling. ;-) The pasta looks wonderful. That's one way to disguise leftovers!
ReplyDeleteYou could be right Palidor. I was the smart ass kid that when told to eat your food because the little kids in Africa were starving, I'd point out that nutrionally they would't be able to stomach our food. I was grounded....A LOT.
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting my blog. I really appreciate it. I have a recipe for tomato-bacon jam that you might like. It was posted on my blog this summer. I would love for you to participate in Crock Pot Wednesday and post a favorite slow cooker recipe. My son-in-law will not eat anything that is left over. He says he had to do that far too often growing up, and he just won't do it now!
ReplyDeleteDebbie - ooooh tomato bacon jam?? Pass it on - that sounds great!! How do I participate in your crock pot Wednesday's? The stuffing I just did would be great.
ReplyDeleteCathy, I got the starving children in China gult trip growing up in Wisconsin. So I understand. And also got into trouble for offering to give the starving kids whatever it was I didn't want to eat.
ReplyDeleteGood thing I had coffee before reading this! LOL So now I know why you don't eat your leftovers. As I recall you do like to eat meatloaf leftovers in sandwiches!
ReplyDeleteYou made my day and no I didn't roll my eyes, well maybe a just a little bit.
Future - I wasn't that silly to offer those kids the cauliflower...there was a reason I wasn't eating it either.
ReplyDeleteMom - :) Yes, I like meatloaf sandwiches....your meatloaf sandwiches. That's the only leftovers :)
This looks like an excellent idea! You could have mixed your left over Brussels with the sauce in with pasta and had a super easy dish, you know!
ReplyDeleteWandering - good call except they had mysteriously gone awol.....
ReplyDeleteGreat way to use brussel sprouts. I'll have to try them this way!
ReplyDeleteI try to save leftovers most of the time but sometimes they go uneaten and have to be thrown out anyway and I wonder why I bothered to save them.
Ungourmet - I always have grand plans for the leftovers...they just don't come to fruition.
