I really need to stop trying stroganoff recipes

I always have such high hopes for stroganoff recipes.....I love the sour cream flavour of the sauce and the noodles or rice it's served with. And being the eternal optimist (see, I'm still not posting about snow), I accumulate stroganoff recipes like they are going out of style.

And really, there is nothing wrong with any of them. From the tried and true beef recipes made with steak to this current attempt made with pork and peppers....they all taste fine. Not great. Just fine. I am hopelessly addicted to this recipe for stroganoff.....give me cream of mushroom soup and hamburger any day of the week.

I think part of the problem with this was I used too many noodles so the sauce wasn't as thick as I like it. The pork was not a problem and the peppers....I didn't find they added much of anything. But as far as fast, moderately healthy weeknight suppers go...I'll take it.

You can find the recipe HERE.

Stay tuned for some great recipes! Thanksgiving is this weekend and I have some pretty great tried and true recipes that I'll be making as well as the world's most amazing turkey gravy!

  1. Stroganoff is a really nice comfort dish. I've only made stroganoff once, flavoring it with star anise for an East Asian twist. I can see why you'd want the sauce thicker, but I'm sure the dish tasted great regardless!

  7. My secret ingredient for stroganoff is Worcestershire sauce. But I agree with you - most published recipes have too much noodles to sauce ratio.

  8. I've never had any stroganoff so I can't really help with that.
It might be that you just weren't in the mood for it. There are days like that.

  14. Taste - do you find it easy to get turkey in Germany? I remember my grandpa telling me how rare it was to eat turkey in Holland.

Natashya - mmmmm love the addition of Worcestershire!

Dajana - yep...there's days where even coffee tastes like crap.

Mom - of course there will be bourbon!

Rachel - really?? You should totally try it - perfect comfort food.

Wandering - the cheap soup version is one of the only meals I ever go back for seconds on.

Ginger - lol...I eat a lot of cooked tomatoes when hubby is out for the evening.

Pierce - um....I have a bit of unmelted snow on the grass and frost on my truck this a.m. I'm thinking your record breaking heatwaves means I'm shipping me and the bike to you!
