Turtles turtles, rah rah rah

Everybody loves turtles right? Those lovely little chocolate treats that show up at Christmas in everyones place of employment????

Well, this isn't that kind of turtle. And in the name of being a food blogger, sometimes you have to just suck it up and try something weird and different. My staff are my willing accomplices in finding me new foods - and today......today we crossed the line.

I have a problem with food consistency - I think I've blogged about that before. I cannot stand lumpy, mushy food. Porridge and oatmeal make me gag. And jello.......jello should be banned.

Ignore the fuzzy blackberry photo.............L made me try black turtle jelly today. You get it at the asian market across the street.

Ummmmmm.......the flavour was ok. Kind of like a cold black tea. It does leave a weird after taste - kind of minerally. BUT....the issue was the jello consistency.

I took a big gulp off the spoon and then stood there with my mouth full of this jelly stuff - and my staff cheered and told me that they always took me to be a swallower (nice, huh??)......so I wasn't allowed to spit it out.

Excuse me while I go brush my teeth.

  1. Um, black turtle jelly? I've never heard of this before. Does it utilize real turtles (i.e. the ones with the shells...)?

  4. For me the consistency wouldn't be the issue. At least not the main issue. Congratulations on - well, not being ill ;-)

  8. your staff is hilarious ... waiting just for the moment when u had your mouth full and couldn't cuss at them, hehehe.
Turtle jelly sounds completely unappetizing .. but hey, somebody out there likes it, or else no one would be making it! Kudos on being an adventurous foodie though ... I totally believe that we should try everything once .. it's only food, after all ... can't kill ya!
