Well, this isn't that kind of turtle. And in the name of being a food blogger, sometimes you have to just suck it up and try something weird and different. My staff are my willing accomplices in finding me new foods - and today......today we crossed the line.
I have a problem with food consistency - I think I've blogged about that before. I cannot stand lumpy, mushy food. Porridge and oatmeal make me gag. And jello.......jello should be banned.
Ignore the fuzzy blackberry photo.............L made me try black turtle jelly today. You get it at the asian market across the street.
I took a big gulp off the spoon and then stood there with my mouth full of this jelly stuff - and my staff cheered and told me that they always took me to be a swallower (nice, huh??)......so I wasn't allowed to spit it out.
Excuse me while I go brush my teeth.
Um, black turtle jelly? I've never heard of this before. Does it utilize real turtles (i.e. the ones with the shells...)?
ReplyDeleteWandering - apparently!
ReplyDeleteEeeeewwwwww!
ReplyDeleteyour braver than I would be! About the porridge you wouldn't even eat it when you 8 months old..... you started gagging just looking at it!
ReplyDeleteYou are much braver than I - blech!
ReplyDeleteFor me the consistency wouldn't be the issue. At least not the main issue. Congratulations on - well, not being ill ;-)
ReplyDeleteThat is brave. I would have spit. ;-)
ReplyDeleteOh that even grosses me out. I already knew you were a swallower;)
ReplyDeleteMom/Cate/Natashya - not sure if it's bravery or stupidity
ReplyDeleteTaste - it was a close one......the ill part was there.
Donna - you know it chickie.
your staff is hilarious ... waiting just for the moment when u had your mouth full and couldn't cuss at them, hehehe.
ReplyDeleteTurtle jelly sounds completely unappetizing .. but hey, somebody out there likes it, or else no one would be making it! Kudos on being an adventurous foodie though ... I totally believe that we should try everything once .. it's only food, after all ... can't kill ya!
Oh no....reading that just got my gag reflex on full alert! I like to try new things but....yeah, no.
ReplyDeleteI guess that means if you came to visit me, you wouldn't eat raw oysters with me! ;-)
ReplyDeleteKatherine - can't wait to visit you...you would be surprised how many raw oysters I can pack away....my favourite food ever!
ReplyDeletePierce - lol - I'll try anything once :)
Muneeba - yep, my staff are funny - not :)
I've never tried that jelly. I just watched How to Eat Fried Worms with my kids. Talk about mushy and lumpy! ACK!
ReplyDeletelol Ungourmet - I don't know if I could stomach that movie :)
ReplyDeleteMy middle child does not do soft foods. Not even ice cream without chunky things in it. He would be right there with you!
ReplyDeleteOh god no! It's still turtle jelly...aakkk.....
ReplyDeleteHahaha Pierce - last kick at the can for summer for me - been out every night having fun :) I'll be posting by the weekend again.
ReplyDeleteLOL, you're funny! Ummm, but you seriously swallowed that black turtle jelly? Ugh... You're so brave!
