Wow - can't believe I'm almost at 200 posts - where has the time gone???
And I would just like to ask why it's been cooler the past week and today it's 30 degrees when I'm canning??????? 6 hours, 34 quarts of pickles and one burnt and blistering finger....I am done.
Dill - the same dill that made my office smell heavenly yesterday, resting in a jug of water.

I have to hand it to the farm I got the cukes from.....they did a great job of cleaning them before selling them to me. I hardly had to do any scrubbing at all.

Half way through - time for a treat for me!

34 quarts......done and done.

Now to wait the 4 months until they are ready for me to taste!
Fabulous job Cathy! Now you will have to bring one out for us to try. I think I should maybe pass on my title to you! The Queen of Pickles! My girlfriend's little 8 year old as given me the name! All he wanted for dinner when they came out was pickles! Forget the BBQ pork tenderloin, roasted potatoes and BBQ corn! LOL
ReplyDeleteWell, let's taste them first......it could also have been a colossal waste of 6 hours ;)
ReplyDeleteI've never canned anything in my life. I'm impressed..that's a lot of pickles you'll have on hand. Whew!
ReplyDeleteNice! I'm so jealous because I don't think we're doing the usual family canning thing to scheduling conflicts this year, which is a real shame!
ReplyDeleteAnd when we make pickles, we put them in the washing machine to clean them - I am NOT kidding!
Pierce - if I only did 10 jars (enough for us), it's never enough because someone always wants a jar. This way I have enough to give out as gifts.
ReplyDeleteWandering - I had no help this year to do it....I actually kind of enjoyed it. Had the music cranked and a wine cooler ;) The washing machine??? What a great idea!
Murphy's law, right? Same thing happened to me with a birthday cake. The heat and humidity made the icing weep and melt. And of course, today it's frigid. BTW, that's a lot of pickles! No wonder it took 6 hours!
ReplyDeletePalidor - it never fails hey???
